As young as three weeks of age Raffles was
known as Ch. Fred. He was temporarily christened this by us and Barbara
Greenway - his class just stood out. Even as early as 6 weeks he had a
lovely head (see puppy page) a neck to die for and a stunning body.
He was named Raffles because Eddie had won a stud to Ch. Tyegarth Famous
Grouse in a raffle back in the early 1980s. He kept hold of the winning
ticket and used it for Tuesday's famous litter.
He was a tall, rangey puppy and did not start to win until he was around
a year old. Raffles was a real showman - he would turn head over heels
for a ball but managed to contained his excitement in the ring - all we
had to do was roll a ball in front of him and he just stood and stared
at it keeping very still - very unlike a Boxer !
Because of this showmanship his title came relatively quickly.
He won the Dog CC at Crufts in 1988.
